July of 2007 Matt and I tried to hike to Table Mountain/Rock (not sure which one to call it).
We did NOT make it. So sad, had to turn around at the switchbacks (lots of pain, and lots of out of shapeness).
BUT on Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 12:30pm, after being on the trail for
5 1/2 hours we set our oh so happy feet on the summit of Table Mountain. IT WAS WONDERFUL!
The summit is 11,100 feet above the sea, eye level with the Grand Tetons, and just a beautiful place. It is so high up in the sky that the oxygen levels are low low low.
The last hour is just trying to make it through the ridge and hill--or Death Hill, as my friend calls it.

Can you see the snow in the top right portion of the mountain? Where the snow and green meet. Not in the middle snow right behind me. Anyway, that top right portion is where the SwitchBacks end.

You don't see really any part of the Tetons until you are on the summit of Table Mountain.
Yes the clouds are touching the Tetons. And they were not low clouds either, just shows you how high up we were.
Breath taking. Absolutely breath taking.
Nothing like this in Alabama...
We had a great time doing this. Saw a young adult female moose, which scared the heck out of us (we basically walked right into it, thought it was a black bear at first!); crossed the stream/creek 5 times; ate an MRE for lunch (Shannon's first one); and then we when made it to the summit a storm was coming in, so it got really windy and cold. All in all, it was a wonderful adventure.
So grateful to my sister Ashley and her husband Dave for their help and willingness to come and watch the kids. They came over at 5:30am so we could leave (its an hour drive) and left around 6pm after we feed them pizza.

Wow, congrats. Adam and I totally regret not doing more outdoors while we were there. Good luck with your little guy's surgery, that must be so scary for you. But I believe in miracles! Good to see you guys on here!
That looks awesome! Good luck with Eli's surgery! Keep us updated. We will be praying for him.
WhOOP WhOOP- That's right, stick it to the man, er, mountain. I call it Table Rock- but that's just because that's what sweet rock climbers I knew called it, so it sounds as hard as it is- although mountain sounds harder...does that make sense?
Wow- I am impressed! That sounds like quite the hike! Way to go for getting it done!
Wow, I didn't know you reached your goal this summer. i know you guys have talked about it......so, wahoo!!! Congrats.
