The Last Week(ish)

There are times when I'm like, "Wow, I'm so on top of keeping our blog updated.  I'm awesome."  Then I look at my journal.  Then I look at my phone.  Then I look at my calendar.  Then I look at myself in the mirror and slap myself for getting behind!

Things have been happening.  Wow, imagine that.  A family full of 3 boys would be busy, wouldn't it?

First things first:  I finished Truman, by David McCullough.  I got it for my birthday, and yes it took me 2.5 months!  But it's 988(ish) pages long, mkay?
Oh man, I cried.  I was not ready to let Truman die--which, spoiler alert, he did.   McCullough is such an amazing biographer anyway, it's hard to not love anything he writes.  But man alive, this Harry S. Truman is a great guy!  Welcome, Mr. President Truman, to my list of top favorite presidents!  *Grand standing applause*  I don't want to give it all away, but Truman did a lot of hard things, and stayed morally straight the whole dang time.

So far my list of favorite presidents include John Adams, Jimmy Carter, and now Harry Truman.  Pretty sure if I read something about Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, and Teddy Roosevelt I'd like them a lot too... It's too soon after Clinton and the Bush(es) to feel like what I would be reading would be objective.  And I don't know when I'll be ready for something on Reagan, I think things on him are still way too subject.  Like the political climate settle a bit, you know?

My next McCullough read is The Great Bridge.  Yay!
Insert more boring rambles here>> "history, ramble, history, ramble"

Isaac's been building LEGOs like crazy.  Lately it's been a lot of guns and stuff.  We ran out of room on Friday, and ran out of (shock!) LEGOs.  It's been a chore slimming down the creations, but I think he finally let go and re-realized the awesomeness of recreating things!   He's usually good about tearing things apart, but since Matt left he got really attached to EVERYTHING.   He seems okay now, and is starting to turn his guns into Star Wars ships.  So that's interesting!   Here's some pictures of the guns and stuff from the last two weeks:

Soooooo.... my parents came last weekend!  Super fun!  They actually stayed for 4 days.  We were able to lots with them, and they are always a welcome change of pace.  While Grammie and Gramps were here I took advantage of being able to take Eli to get a chest xray (without the other children bothering us).  Eli's cardio appointment is this week, and cardiologist needs a chest xray completed before the visit.

I let Eli bring his Mac and Lightening.  Cause moral support is important!
I quickly snapped a picture of the xray that came on the screen.  Pretty cool, eh?

I don't really remember what this was about...  I'm sure we were doing a lot of errands that day, and Titus passed out, and then me and Eli ate some left over spaghetti.  Man that spaghetti was good!  (Also we went to a baby shower on Thursday which served a lot of good food!  No pics, though.)

The boys got over their colds, and we played outside.  YES!  Especially loved throwing rocks into our ditch/canal.

Yes, Titus is outside practically naked.  Yes, Titus is wearing size 6 underwear.
Yes, Titus has his shoes on the wrong feet.
He's two.  He gets his own way.

Okay, Isaac's school's janitor brings chickens in every spring and also some eggs.   These eggs are incubated in the library and the kids can go by and watch them hatch!  Fun!

There's been quite a bit of Skype-ing/FaceTime-ing this man.  Love it!  Things have changed so much since his Iraq days.  I mean, I can send him iMessages and get responses instantly.  Wow.

Birds.  So many birds here.  When we arrived at Eli and Isaac's first t-ball practice there were all these vultures/condors on the fence.  Hope that isn't a bad omen!
And Mr. Crane?  Yeah, he scarred me to death today when I walked around the shed and he flew off!

Just some other things of note:
I worked in the yard for 2 hours Friday, trying to get everything in before the rain storms.  Well after checking on the boys lots of times, I decide that I should cut the shrubs.  I do that, then come back inside.  HOLY CRAP.  The 3 boys are sitting on the couch and eating an entire package of oreo cookies.  THE WHOLE THING.  Brand new package, totally devoured by them in 5 minutes.  I didn't get too upset, but had them come outside and pick up sticks.
Man alive, what's going to happen when they are all in their teens?!

Screech, Screech!

Says the Brown (probably) Eagle in our backyard!

Matt and Isaac are in the backyard.  Isaac says, "Dad, what's that bird in the tree way over there?"
Matt exclaims,  "Oh my gosh, I think it's an eagle!  Good eyes, Isaac!"
Isaac shrugs, "Yeah, I see pretty good... Like Mom."
Matt continues, "Dude, I think there is a squirrel in his talons!!"

Eagle bashes squirrel against a tree...

And he doesn't like Matt standing so close, so he flies with squirrel dinner in tow.

What's up with us and birds of prey?  I don't know, but I love it!
