A "Life on the Highway" Week

Goodness gracious, great balls of fire.  We had one heck of a week!

..........

Monday I drove to Savannah--just me--to look at two rental properties.  6.5 hours one way.  Was it worth it?  Probably.  I now know where I really want to look, and what things I'm looking for... Er, I think, anyway.

The drive kind of drove me crazy, though.  Not a country music fan, so couldn't really listen to any station in lower Alabama and Georgia.  Basically NPR and Sports Radio kept me company.  When I did get back to Bama I was an emotional wreck (tired, tired, tired!).  I talked to Matt,  and was crying, and was being totally irrational.  He tells me, "Shannon, drink some water and go get some sleep."   Thanks babe.  Water fixes everything, right?

..........

Tuesday me and the boys left my parents home, which is south of B'ham, and headed up I-65 to Ft. Knox.  Matt had a 24 hour pass, and we were not going to miss the chance to see that wonderful man.  We arrived at our on base hotel at 7pm, Matt met up with us at 8pm.  Everyone was in HEAVEN!  Titus could not stop giving Matt hugs--one of those moments which I wish I video taped.

...........

Wednesday we had the day together.  Early lunch at a Chick-Fil-A, which the boys loved the indoor play area.  Then I drove us to Louisville, and Matt and Titus took a good 30 to 40 minute nap on the car ride.

At Louisville we toured the Louisville Slugger factory and museum.  Awesome.  So awesome!  Best 10 bucks ever spent (military discount).  Louisville Slugger makes most, if not all, the wood baseball bats... going back many, many, many years.  Matt knows a lot about baseball, I know jack squat.  Works out well ;)

Behold, pictures from my BlackBerry:

After factory tour, looking through the museum, and swinging our very own mini Louisville Slugger bats.

HECK YES!  Holding a game used David Ortiz bat!

Matt holding a game used Micky Mantle bat!  Awesomeness.

Babe Ruth bat.  And Isaac ;)

Boys in the kids batting cage.

Matt in the man's batting cage.  Super-star!

Afterwards Matt wanted to go see a movie (and me too) so we all went to the new Spiderman movie!  Parents of the year award, right here everyone.  The boys did well, but Titus got a bit antsy.  Then that evening was spent wrestling the boys at the hotel.  These boys love to wrestle their dad, and also love to stay in hotels!

.........

Thursday.  Unbelievable.  Matt left 5am, his pass was up.  I got the boys out into the 4runner at 10:30am (eastern time).  We left.  We drove.  We didn't make it back to my parents' home till 8:15pm (central time).  Supposed to be a 6 hour drive, remember?

What happened:

- Wrong turn--added 30 minutes. Elizabethtown, KY
- Kids hungry, and me STARVING.  30 minute by Bowling Green, KY
- Maintenance light comes on, pull over and check the oil, also talk to my dad.  20 minutes, north Tennessee
- Eli has "pee-potty" emergency IN the city of Nashville.  Pull over on the crazy interstate, but Eli already peeped pants.  10 minutes, Nashville
- Huge wreck/traffic jam by Huntsville I-65/565 junction.  Sit in traffic for 45 minutes.  Finally get to a place in the median to turn around, turn around (just as an annoyed state trooper comes a long), and drive east on I-565 to Huntsville.  15 minutes.
- Isaac has to poop.  15 minutes, Huntsville, Alabama
- Drive through Huntsville, find alternate route to take me across the Tennessee river.  Go through Arab and Cullmon, Alabama... Ahhhhh!  Adds another 45 minutes to the drive.

.........

And guess what?  Matt has another 24 hour pass on the 11th, probably.  I don't know if I'm ready to do this all over again!
