We live close the national monument Fort Pulaski. This fort was built in the mid 1800s, part of the USofA defense policy, and wasn't used at all till the CSA took over in 1860. Once the USofA got their act together they were able to form a siege and bombard the fort, then take it over. Fort Pulaski guards the Savannah coastal way, and was strategically important.
We're military, and we get into the national parks and monuments for free! The boys have been once before, and we decided to introduce Matt to it on one warm December weekend. (30 minute drive, yay!)
This trip was a lot of fun. The boys had remembered visiting it before, and were excited to show their daddy all the tunnels and cannons. We were able to make it for a cannon demonstration and a musket demonstration. Eli had a complete meltdown during the cannon fire, and made us leave the during two firings. Seriously, a COMPLETE MELTDOWN. After a good 10 minutes of crying he was able to gain composure and we were able to continue our exploration.
Oh yes, we will go again!
