If I May,

Let me paint a picture of this mornings happenings:

(First, I am a single parent this weekend while Matt is gone doing National Guard Army drill in Pocatello. Second, I am six months pregnant with morning sickness ever present.)

My almost-one-year-old is crawling around getting into odds and ends, then he spots me eating. Quickly he rushes over to see if he can take part in the eating festivities, but with him is also the foul smell of nasty diaper.

I know I have to change the diaper quickly because of a server diaper rash which he is currently dealing with. My tummy is in knots at the prospect, but I prepare to change the diaper. Everything is in its place: the baby, the wipes, the new diaper, the diaper rash ointment. I open the diaper, and my tummy does a flip. "I can handle this," I say to my self. I manage one wipe, then my tummy does another flip and some Frosted Mini-Wheats comes up.

I run to the kitchen, grab the nearest mixing bowl and start to empty my tummy. But I must return to baby because he is all alone with an exposed nasty diaper. I go back, still emptying tummy into the bowl, and try my best to clean him up. Meanwhile the 3 year old leans over and says, "Wow, Mom, that is a lot of throw up!" I use many wipes, seeing that my judgment and skill is off due to the ever constant tummy emptying.

I manage to change and diaper a fighting, flipping baby and I lay exhausted on the ground.

Dude. That's all there is to say about that. I understand. I wish I didn't, which is why I am giving you "dude". It is my form of deepest, most sincere sympathies.

Oh Shan,
three is good right? hehe I have no idea how I would attempt to change a diaper 6 months pregnant, but probably with a little crying added to your scenerio. You're an awesome mom by the way- and a hot pregnant woman too!

I babysat a little boy while pregnant this time around, and he had some pretty stinky diapers. Just having him in the same room as me would make me hurl. So I kept lifesaver candies around, and when it came time to change the little darling, I popped 5 or 6 of those candies in and sucked on them intensly while not breathing and chinging the bum (be really fast) then i would run out of the room when finished (cause that smell sticks around) and gulp in clean refreshing air. Then I wouldn't throw up. That was my secret, those candies saved my lunch and my life :)

That reminds me of how my summer last year was. I couldn't change a diaper without puking, either. You know it is bad when your kids aren't even that phased by your throw up. My kids would come talk to me while I was in the bathroom barfing. But you are 6 months! At least mine was gone by 14 weeks. I don't know how I would have survived a day longer. You are a great writer!
