Education?!

Matt is starting his MBA program in less than two weeks and it has really got me thinking about my education. I'm pretty terrified that I don't have any real skills... Right now Matt and I have agreed that it is his turn to go to school and I am to stay at home and be the primary care giver. We feel this stability is very important for our boys. I really like this plan, and feel good about it. But if something happens to Matt and the responsibility of providing for the family falls on my shoulders I don't know what I would do! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in University Studies. Mmm... pretty dang lame. It's pretty much a jumping off point for a masters. But a masters in what? What do I want to be when I grow up? I don't know! I know I want and need a masters, so here's what I have been thinking:

Follow my heart and go into Anthropology. This probably requires a PhD in the end. Then go into university to teach.
Go back and get another bachelors in Landscape Architecture, followed by a masters, then become a sweet landscape designer.
Go back and get another bachelors in English, followed by a master in library and information science, become a librarian!
Fill medical school requirements, enter medical school, probably specialize in Cardiology, and become a Cardiologist. (Kinda feel I'm half way there anyway, with Eli and all.)
Or a physician assistant.
Or a super skilled ultrasound technician.

One of my problems is that I love school so much that I cannot decide what I want to do. The list above is a portion of the things I have thought about.

One day I'll enter school. One day I'll figure it out. I may be 60 by the time it is all over and I can start a career. Till then let's hope Matt stays well and whole!

Dana Scarbrough said...: hehe, I feel this way too- I truly did get a degree in something I love, and hope I can use it- but so many other things spark my interest- especially since I have the time now to dabble in talents and hobbies after a many year absence. The Kids and Their Stories

Titus, "It's floggy outside, I can't even see my schoowah." ::translation:: It's foggy outside, I can't even see my school.

December 2014

Eli gets in the car from school, with another crafted hat on. He says, "Mrs. Roberts has to make mine really bigger."

November 2014

Since August 2013, when Eli ran full speed into a mirror in a hotel room thinking it was a hallway, the boys reenact almost everyday. Their favorite thing is to run into walls. Over and over and over again.

Winter 2013, Spring 2014, Summer 2014, Fall 2014

Titus will randomly stream sounds together, saying he's speaking Spanish. "Allahkala la mal shi mum."

When Isaac finds something exceptionally funny, he has the best belly laugh!

Eli gets in the car with a fox hat on. I ask, "Did you go over the letter F, today?"

Eli, "Yeah, we did all the 'F' words."

Titus, "A catfish will bite you and drag you down and eat you!…. Wait. That's a shark."

Eli, "My head is 3D. It's a sphere!"

Eli and Isaac are playing the Wii. Isaac's getting frustrated at Eli. "Eli!" says Isaac, "You're making me loose my conscience!'

Me, "Isaac, I think you mean 'concentration'."

October 2014

Titus, "We don't have to wear church clothes to church."

Matt, "Yes we do."

Titus, "No we don't."

Matt, "Yes we do."

Titus, "No we don't."

Matt, "Yes we do."

Titus, "Dad, I'm trying to trick you!"

Titus is drawing a picture of each person in the family. When he gets to Nana (who is visiting us) he says, "I'm drawing Nana with her sad eyes."

Eli's happily eating his breakfast when all of the sudden he hunches his shoulders and sadly says, "I don't like dreams… They don't let me sleep."

Isaac opens up the MineCraft game and sighs, "Titus, what in the world did you build? It doesn't even have a door!"

Eli, "Something is wrong with tooth today at school. I ate popcorn and it got wiggly."

Isaac, "I'm just so excited about Saturday."

Me, "Why?"

Isaac, "Because I'm getting baptized, and I want to want to learn what's it's like, and I'm only getting baptized once!"

Eli looks at a paige in the book, grunts and shrugs, and says, "That's 2D."

Titus loves to draw "maps", roll them up, and leave them all over the house. We have no idea where they lead to, but he's positive it's essential to our survival.

Matt and Isaac are talking while Matt is unpacking some of his military gear. Isaac asks, "What are these?"

Matt says, "My earplugs. I wore those on the C-17 airplane to West Point and the plane gets loud."

Isaac, "Wow. How much equipment and people did you go with?"

Matt gives him a rough estimate.

Isaac, "What about the C-5 Galazy? That holds 272 passengers and 6 Apache Helicopters."

Matt's blown away by Isaac's knowledge and asks Isaac where he learned it. Isaac says, "My book. I learned a lot of cool stuff."

September 2014

I pick Eli up from car rider line, and he starts asking when he'll be able to go to book fair.

Eli, "Will I go when I'm in what Isaac is in?"

Me, "What's that?"

Eli, "What Isaac is in… college? No… That's not it… "

Me, "Second grade?"

Eli, "Yeah. That's it. Book fair in second grade?"

Me, "Actually, you'll go next week."

Eli, "WHAT?! NEXT WEEK! TITUS, I GO NEXT WEEK!"

Titus gets in the car from preschool, and says, "I made a new friend, Jaylee. She's a girl. She likes to play Ninja Turtles… She learned how to talk so she could play with me."

August 2014

Boys are making Halloween costume plans. It's Spider-Man themed.

Eli, "I wanna be Spider-Man!"

Isaac, "I want to be Rhino."

Titus, "I wanna be Electro," and, "Dad is gonna be the Green Goblin."

I ask, "So who am I going to be?"

Blank stares from all. They have no idea.

August 2014

It's 4:40am and Titus walks into our room.

He whispers to me, "I want my brothers awake…. "

Me, "Get. Back. In. Bed. Do. Not. Wake. Your. Brothers."

I ask Eli to pick up some toys, and he starts to whine.

"There is no need to whine, Eli," I say, "I'm not asking you to do something hard."

"Yeah," pipes in Isaac, "It's not 1982, or something!"

Titus spells his name to Grammie, "T - U - S - I - T!"

Grammie and Isaac exchange shocked/funny faces.

Summer 2014

Eli is singing "Popcorn Popping" to us.

After the first rendition, I ask Eli to sing the part, "spring has brought me such a nice surprise" once more.

Eli sings, "Spring has broccoli such a nice surprise!"
