Liberty Day

Those of you who already knew that I grew up in a small town south of B'ham in Bama, raise your hands! Congratulations, you guys deserve cookies... freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Yum!

So this small town, of about 3500, puts on a day of celebration for the 4th of July. Always the last Saturday of June. I did Liberty Day with my kids, by myself cause my parents were out of town.

Highlights:
  • Venders on the street
  • Car show
  • Cheap carnival rides
  • Meeting people I haven't seen in forever
  • Boiled peanuts!!
  • Parade
  • Fireworks
  • Oh, it was also dang hot and humid
Alright, here are the photos of the day:

Boiled peanuts, childhood favorite snake. Typically sold on the side of road, almost everywhere. They are green peanuts, or raw peanuts, (meaning fresh, just picked without being dried out yet) boiled forever in salt. YUMMY! During my K thru 3rd grade years my neighbor would buy a bag and share with me. He was a hefty man, but he had a heart of gold. Also a pot-bellied pig as a pet. He and his wife were awesome... Thankfully none of my boys wanted any, so I got to have the salty, gushy warm goodness all to myself!

Again, it was a hot, Hot, HOT DAY!

During the two little boys' nap time, Isaac came to believe he was in the Marine Corps and needed to shot his LEGO machine gun to protect the house. Mainly from the high school marching band that was setting up came in my parents' front yard.

It had been seven years since my last Liberty Day, and it can quite possibly be another 7 years till my next Liberty Day.

Till we meet again Liberty Day, till we meet again...

Look at you braving the festival alone! Way to go! Looks like a great time, I think it is great that the boys get to experience a summer like yours when you were a kiddo. Yikes about the lego in the nose, I think the nurse deserved it, I hate when they don't listen and assume you don't know what is going on. Tanner did that with peas when he was like 2 or something. I think a lego would be much harder to get out. But I am glad it ended without anymore drama!
