I have purposefully stayed away from Pinterest. I joined probably after Christmas, pinned a few things, then hardly ever logged on after that.
Pinterest made me feel bad. Awful, actually. It was so overwhelming I didn't even know how to wrap my mind around all the great, fabulous, terrific ideas. I mean how was I supposed to pin these things and do/create them, when I was falling so behind on all the simple basic tasks at home?!
So I just stayed away.
Until a week ago. I needed ideas for this home.
I pinned one idea... then another... then another... I pinned so many things, and before I knew it I had almost filled up a board! Then people repinned what I pinned. And I whole cycle was started!
I still don't do a lot with Pinterest. Like I'll look every other day or so... It still is very overwhelming. Last night I could feel my blood pressure rise while I looked at craft ideas to do with kids. Goodness, can I ever be that amazing?
What I've learned in the last week: Pinterest is fun, has good ideas, and is a useful tool.
But I can't over indulge, or I'll start to drown in low self esteem.
..............
So here's what me and Matt have done with a few of the Pinterest ideas!
Can you say "honey-do list on steroids"? That's pretty much what the week with Matt here was like.
1. Kitchen Island
Matt's parents had given us an older 3 dresser drawers. I had seen where a dresser was turned into an island, and after seeing the layout of the kitchen I knew I needed to make it!
- I bought some wheels, and attached them myself. Wood glue, pre-drilling holes, and all! Took a bit of work--but, man, I love working with power-tools!
- I bought a can of paint from the "oops, I didn't want the color" shelf. Matt and I painted away.
- I bought two cutting boards from Wal-mart. Matt wood glued, the screwed them in from underneath.
- We bought a handle to attach to the side, which matches the existing hardware nicely.
It works out really well! I like the extra counter space, and the drawers to put things in, i.e. cameras, kids art supplies.
2. Kids Toy Organizer
These toys. All these toys! They drive me crazy! I was pretty determined that we'd figure out a way to put them away.
Matt and I searched and searched for certain types of tubs. We ended up finding these plastic flower pots at Wal-mart. So zip-ties, tubs, and a drill (to drill holes) and we've got ourselves a toy organizer!
It doesn't hold as much as I had hoped, but it'll do the job while I save up lots of monies for an IKEA item I have my mind set on. (It should be noted that the Pinterest one I saw had all the same size tubs, so probably holds more than ours which decreases in size each level up.)
3. Table Lamp Holders.
Yeah... I don't know what else to call them!
Our living room needed lots of light. But I didn't want to go out and buy big lamps that cost $$, when I had two nice table lamps needing to be used. Matt and I talked, and brain stormed, and came up with ideas. We settled on these wall mounted boxes to put on either of the couch.
Matt cut these 6' x 1.5' board to 12 inches in length. Screwed them together, and mounted them using angle irons.
I want to paint them... or distress them... or do something to them... but for now they hold up our light, and give the living room life! Which is all I'm asking for at the moment.

I know what you mean! Who are these women creating all of these amazing things all of the time! I love the ideas, but only do a few once in a while. I love the ones you chose especially the island. Nice work!
How cool are those?! I read a quote once and I think I'll share it. "If you were to spend as much time working out as you do on pintrest then you would look like the women you 'pin' on your Motivation Board." I think that applies to a lot of things. I actually only use pintrest to bookmark recipes that I want to try. I've never actually gone out and actively searched on it. I agree with you whole heartedly. It is a useful tool, but sometimes I think people go a little over board!
Pinterest was AMAZING to me, because my organization for stuff I found online was getting crazy. If you browse all the time or pin every single item all your friends pin, it will make you crazy! I love that I can find so many things/ideas for one topic though (like young women for instance) so much more quickly than searching on my own- because usually those things that are pinned, have already been tried by a few people. :)
I love the island!
Just keep in mind that those creating/doing AREN'T doing everything- they're focused on one thing- you have things pinned from multiple sources- no one is superwoman! :)
